Candied Walnuts (with a twist)

Walnuts are full of good fats, fiber and vitamins. Coat them in a sugary syrup that turns into a crunchy coating. A great snack for when you're on the go, or as a topping for desserts and pies.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 lbs walnuts
  • 40 g sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • Any other seasonings as desired

Instructions

  • Shell and toast the walnuts in a dry pan, or roast them in an oven until they're fragrant.
  • In a non-stick pan, dissolve sugar and any other flavourings in water. Reduce the syrup until thick and bubbly.
  • Mix in the walnuts and coat in the syrup.
  • Spread the walnuts out on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and allow to cool before storing in the fridge.

Notes

You can flavour candied walnuts with almost anything. Let your creativity run wild! I’ve done batches with cinnamon and vanilla. I even once made them with a more savoury flavour profile with garlic powder and cumin (and got mixed reviews – try at your own risk).
